  • Time Standards – All entries must be equal to or faster than the 2020 SC Junior Olympic Time Standards (see page 12), or the 2019 LC Junior Olympic Time Standards
  • Entry times shall be in short course yards (Y), long course meters (L) or Short Course Meters (S) achieved since January 1, 2019. No Converted Times will be accepted.
  • Entry Limits: Swimmers may enter a maximum of 7 (seven) Individual Events plus Relays (excluding time trials).
  • There is no Admission Charge for Ohio Championship Meets.
  • The meet will be run in two pools racing format with 10 lanes to be used on each end for prelims and 8 lanes will be used at finals. Anychanges will be communicated to coaches within 48-hours of the meet entry deadline.
  • All heats in finals will be swum slowest to fastest.

The Corwin M. Nixon pool is a 50-meter x 25-yard pool with adjacent diving well.

The competition pool will consist of 8 Long Course lanes each in prelims and finals with a depth of 6 to 10 feet.

Continuous warm-up and warm-down areas will be available in the diving well.

Eligibility

The Ohio Senior Circuit meet is open to all swimmers who meet the following criteria:

- High school athletes, who are in or beyond their freshman year and are eligible to compete in a high school swim meet during that academic year;

- Collegiate or Masters athletes;

- Disabled athletes who meet the eligibility criteria that are required of other meet participants.

No swimmer will be permitted to compete unless the swimmer is a member as provided in Article 302. All entries must contain their USA Swimming number. USA-S registrations will not be accepted at this meet.

Age on the first day of competition will determine eligibility for the meet.

Entry Rules:

Swimmers may swim a maximum of 3 (three) individual events per day (including time trials).

Swimmers may enter a maximum of 6 (six) Individual Events for the meet.

To guarantee a preliminary swim for the 1500 freestyle event, enter the athlete with a SCY time and indicate to the entry chair that the athlete wishes to swim in the preliminary heat.

If a swimmer wants an official intermediate split from a longer distance event, they must notify the meet referee before the event and complete an Ohio Time Certification form.

No relays will be contested at this meet.

Entry Fees:

Individual Events - $8.00 per entry.

Surcharge - $5.00 per swimmer (OSI Fund)

Time Trials – $15 per individual event.

Competition Guidelines & Meet Format:

Single preliminary sessions for all swimmers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a final session in those evenings consisting of Bonus D (16-year olds and under), Bonus C, Consolation and Championship heats for all events except those which are marked as timed final events. (Swum in the order C, B, A, D).

The D Bonus final will only be contested for events 200 yards and under. The D Bonus final is limited to 16-year old and under athletes, who did not qualify for the A, B or C final. Eight (8) lanes will be used for all heats in preliminaries and morning timed final events.

Fly-over starts will be used in preliminary session events at the discretion of the Meet Referee.

Eight (8) lanes will be used for prelim, finals/consolation/bonus heats and timed final events swum in the evening.

The meet referee reserves the right to combine events in accordance with USA Swimming Rules & Regulations.

The meet host reserves the right to use two ended starts during prelims on any or all days based upon the number of entries to manage the timeline. If two ended starts are used, even heats will start on the scoreboard side of the pool and odd heats will start at the Balcony end. If two ended starts are used, the meet host reserves the right to request timers from each participating team to staff the second pool. All 50 Meter events will start at the Scoreboard end. This will be communicated by the Wednesday preceding the event.

A timeline will be posted in several prominent places; however, timelines are approximate.

Scratch and Positive Check-in Procedures:

Any swimmer listed as an original qualifier, qualifying for a bonus, consolation or championship final in an individual event who fails to compete in said final shall be barred from his/her next individual event, except as noted in ‘Exception for Failure to Compete’ below. A declared false start under 101.1.3F or deliberate delay of meet under 101.1.5 is not permitted and will be regarded as a failure to compete. In order to remain eligible for subsequent sessions, the swimmer must declare their intention to swim with the Admin Referee prior to completion of the current session.

In the event of withdrawal or barring of a swimmer from competition the Referee shall fill the bonus, consolation or championship final, when possible, with the next qualified swimmer(s). First and second alternates shall be announced along with the final qualifiers. The alternates shall not be penalized if unavailable to compete in the finals.

Where bonus or consolation finals have not been swum and a barred or withdrawn swimmer is known to the Referee, the Referee shall reseed the bonus, consolation and championship final, if necessary, to insert the alternate(s) in the appropriate lane(s), filling all lanes in the final.

If the consolation final has already been contested, the championship final shall be swum without reseeding for the empty lanes(s).

Failure to scratch consolation or championship finals according to the rules above shall result in a $50.00 penalty fee per event against the swimmer if the event is his/her last event of the meet. The penalty fee shall be billed to the club and paid to the host group member.

Finals Session Event Order

The order of the final events shall be the same as preliminary sessions except the 1500 Freestyle will be contested as the first event at Finals.

The 50 Backstroke, 50 Butterfly and 50 Breaststroke will be contested in prelims only.

The order of heats at Finals will be C (Bonus) - B (Consolation) - A (Championship) - D (16 year olds and under), if contested.

Entry Rules - General
  • Any Ohio LSC swimmer, 14 years and under, with a time slower than the Ohio Short Course Junior Olympic cutoff, may enter the Regional Championship.
  • There shall be No Deck Entries at the Championship Meet
Entry Rules: Individual Events
  • Swimmers may swim a maximum of three individual events per day, plus Relays (including time trials).
  • Swimmers may enter a maximum of 7 (seven) Individual Events, plus Relays (excluding time trials).
  • “NT” entries will not be accepted. Please estimate an entry time.
  • Age on the first day of the meet will determine the age group in which a swimmer is entered.
  • If a swimmer wants an official intermediate split from a longer distance event, they must notify the meet referee before the event and complete an Ohio Time Certification form.

  • Time Trials – $12.00 per individual entry; $16.00 per relay entry
  • Entry Fees for Age Group Championship Meets are established annually by the Age Group Committee.
Competition Guidelines & Meet Format
  • Except for the Relays and events designated as Timed Finals Events in the Order of Events on page 4, the meet will be conducted in a Preliminary-Finals format with a Championship (A) and a Consolation (B) heat at Finals. The B Final will swim before the A Final. Alternates should be ready to swim in the B Finals and identify themselves to the referee.
  • The 13-14 1650Y Freestyle event will be Timed Finals with the fastest heat swimming at Finals. The preliminary sessions of these events will swim fastest to slowest; alternating between women and men.
  • All 400Y and over Individual Timed Final events will be swum fastest to slowest in the Preliminary session.
  • Athletes will swim Timed Final Events as seeded by entry time.
  • Relays are timed finals and only the top heat will swim at night on Day 3. Relays on Day 4 are all contested in Prelims.
  • The 13-14 1650Y Freestyle and 11-12 400Y IM will be contested as the last event at Prelims on Day 4, with the 11-12 400Y IM and 13-14 1650Y Freestyle as first and second events at Day 4 Finals, respectively.
  • The 11-12 200Y Breast, Back and Fly will be Timed Finals with the fastest heat at Finals. The preliminary sessions of these events will swim slowest to fastest.
  • Fly-over starts will be used in preliminary session events at the discretion of the Meet Referee, in consultation with the meet committee. 

Scratch Procedures:

- A swimmer who officially scratches from an individual event shall not have that event count towards their maximum number of events for the meet or for that day.

- The scratch deadline for Preliminary Events and Timed Final Events will be 30 minutes prior to the start of the session where the individual or relay is contesting the event. 

Scratching from Prelims:
  • Any swimmer not appearing for an individual preliminary event or timed final event, without officially scratching per meet guidelines, shall not be penalized; however, that event will be counted against their 7 event maximum for the meet and their 3 event per day maximum.
  • Any relay team that fails to appear for a pre-seeded relay event shall not be penalized.
Scratching from Finals: • Any swimmer listed as an original qualifier, qualifying for a consolation or championship final in an individual event who fails to compete in said final shall be barred from his/her next individual event, except as noted in ‘Exception for Failure to Compete’ below. A declared false start under 101.1.3F or deliberate delay of meet under 101.1.5 is not permitted and will be regarded as a failure to compete. In order to remain eligible for subsequent sessions, the swimmer must declare their intention to swim with the Administrative Referee prior to the completion of the current session.
Scratching from Finals (cont’d):
  • In the event of withdrawal or barring of a swimmer from competition the Referee shall fill the consolation or championship final, when possible, with the next qualified swimmer(s). First and second alternates shall be announced along with the final qualifiers. The alternates shall not be penalized if unavailable to compete in the finals.
  • Where consolation finals have not been swum and a barring or withdrawal is known to the Referee, the Referee shall reseed the consolation and championship final, if necessary, to insert the alternate(s) in the appropriate lane(s), filling all lanes in the final.
  • If the consolation final has already been contested, the championship final shall be swum without reseeding for the empty lanes(s).
  • Failure to scratch consolation or championship finals according to the rules above shall result in a $50.00 penalty fee per event against the swimmer if the event is his/her last event of the meet. The penalty fee shall be billed to the club and paid to the host group member.
Exception for Failure to Compete: No penalty shall apply for failure to withdraw or compete in an individual event if:
  • The Referee is notified in the event of illness or injury and accepts the proof thereof.
  • A swimmer qualifying for a consolation or championship final race based upon the original results of the preliminaries notifies the Clerk of Course within thirty (30) minutes after the announcement of qualifiers for that race that they may not intend to compete and further declares their final intentions within thirty (30) minutes following their last individual preliminary event.
  • It is determined by the Referee that failure to compete is caused by circumstances beyond the control of the swimmer.

Relays and Relay Check-In Procedures:

  1. All relays are conducted on a timed final basis. Entry forms for all relays will be included in the Team packets and must be turned in prior to the relay forms deadline in order to be seeded. The coach shall list the competing relay swimmers, their first and last names and order of swimming for each entered relay. Relay forms shall be returned to the host team designated person for entry by the deadline. However, relay swim order may be changed up to the time of the swim.
  2. Relay Forms – All relay forms are due no later than 30 minutes after the start of the warm-ups for the session in which they are being contested. Any changes to this will be communicated during the coach’s meeting.
Finals Session Event Order The order of the final events shall be the same as preliminary sessions except the 11-12 400Y IM and 13-14 1650Y Freestyle will be contested as the first and second events at Finals, respectively.
Awards • Individual Events - Medals will be awarded to all place winners in the “A” final (championship). Ribbons will be awarded to all place winners in the “B” final (consolation). 
• Relay Events - Medals will be awarded to the top 3 relay places. Ribbons will be awarded to remaining lanes in the “A” Championship heat (4-6 place for 6-lane pool, 4-8 place for 8-lane pool).

Time Trials
  • Time Trials will be conducted time permitting following the preliminary sessions on Saturday and Sunday beginning no earlier than 20 minutes following the end of the preliminary session.
  • Signups for Time Trials each day will close no later than one hour prior to the end of each preliminary session according to the estimated timeline. The time will be communicated to coaches in the general meeting.
  • Meet Participants are limited to three individual events per day, including Time Trials. A declared false start is counted as one of these three individual events per day.
  • Time trial sessions will be limited to one (1) hour. If on any day, the preliminary session ends less than 45 minutes before the start of the finals warm-ups, the time trial will not be conducted on that day.
  • The Meet Host reserves the right to limit Time Trial events 500 yards or longer to a specific day, based upon the preliminary session timelines. Teams will be informed of this at the General Meeting.
  • Events from the current day will be swum first, with events for subsequent days following in order. Event order may be modified for ease of seeding and timeline control.
  • Time Trials for non-meet participants are limited to individuals attempting to achieve a published National Cut (USA Zone, Y Zone, Sectional, Futures, Junior National, Y Nationals, US Open or Senior National). Entry times for time trials should be within 1⁄2 second per 50 yards/meters of the published Time Standard. The Meet Referee and/or Meet Director have full discretion and authority to review Time Trial entries.
  • Time Trials are open to non-meet participants who are current athlete members of Ohio Swimming, Inc. You must show proof of current USA Membership at the time of sign-up for Time Trials.

  • $5.00 Admission per person (free meet programs). Kids are free.

Entry Limit

Swimmers in the 9-10, 11-12 and OPEN age groups are limited to three (3) individual events per day. Swimmers in the 8 & under age group are limited to four (4) individual events per day.

All events on Friday night may be limited to the top 32 swimmers after positive check-in. The positive check-in deadline will be 1 hour prior to the start of the meet (approximately 5:00). If necessary the meet director reserves the right to limit participation in other selected events, or adjusting the "maximum number of events per session", in order to maintain a meet of reasonable time duration. 

The 1650 may be limited to the top 16 swimmers in each gender after positive check-in. The positive check-in deadline will be 9:00 am on Saturday morning. All heats will be swum fastest to slowest, alternating gender, and may be combined at the meet director’s discretion. All entrants in the 1650 are asked to provide a time or estimated time to be used for timeline purposes (NT’s will not be accepted).

Rules

This is a swim your own age meet. There will be 1 heat of each age group (9, 10, 11, and 12) in finals and 2 heats of the open age group. All 8 & under events will be contested during prelims as timed finals. All Friday night events and the 1650 will be contested as timed finals.

The scratch deadline for all preliminary and timed final events will be 12 hours before the scheduled start of the session in which that event is being contested. There will be no refunds for scratched events; however, they will not count toward the swimmer’s 3 or 4 event per day maximum.

Deck entries will be accepted if the meet is not closed and will only fill open lanes; no new heats will be added. The cost per event is $10. If a swimmer is not previously entered in the meet, then the swimmer must show proof of registration for the current season and pay the applicable $5 Ohio Swimming, Inc. surcharge in addition to any event fees.

A swimmer must notify the scratch table if they are scratching finals within 30 minutes after the announcement and posting of prelim results. Any swimmer originally qualifying for any final heat who fails to compete in the final without properly scratching, shall be barred from his/her next individual event. On the last day of the meet, failure to scratch for the final shall result in a $50.00 fine per event charged to and payable by the swimmer’s club to the host team.

Participants in the 500 must provide their own counter (if desired). Participants in the 1650 must provide their own timer and counter (if desired).

All relays will be contested during finals.

Clerk-of-Course

There will be a clerk-of-course or ‘bullpen’ for all 8 & under events. All events will be announced over the loudspeaker. Swimmers should report directly to the starting blocks for their events. Any swimmer, morning or afternoon session that leaves the pool area is responsible for returning to the pool area for their event.

Awards and Scoring

This meet is an age group format meet. Ribbons will be awarded for first thru eighth for the following ages: 6un, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and OPEN. Heat Ribbons will be given in all age groups. Team scoring will follow standard USA rules for an 8-lane pool.

POOL TYPE:
The Corwin M. Nixon pool is a 50-meter x 25-yard pool with adjacent diving well.
The competition pool will consist of two 25-yard courses, 9 lanes each in prelims with a depth of 6 to 10 feet. Continuous warm-up and warm-down areas will be available in the diving well.

Note: Swimmers will not be permitted in the adjacent leisure pool.

EVENTS:

  • The meet will be swum in accordance with the accompanying Schedule of Events.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This meet is for swimmers age 9 and OLDER. 
  • Friday evening events and all relay events will be TIMED FINALS.
  • The 1000 –yard freestyle will be a TIMED FINAL event on Sunday morning. Positive Check in will close at 10am on

    Sunday Athletes will not be seeded unless they check in. All heats of the 1000-yard freestyle will be swum fastest to slowest following Sunday morning prelims in two courses. We reserve the right to limit the number of heats in the 1000 to 3 for each gender.

  • The 400 IM and the 500 Free will require a “B” cut to qualify to swim. Qualifying times are listed on the Schedule of Events.
  • We reserve the right to require positive check in on Friday evening and limit events if the timeline is over four hours. The remaining individual events will be PRELIMINARY and FINALS. Consolation & Championship finals will be swum for the 11-12, 13-14, and 15 & over events. Only one Championship final heat will be swum for the 9-10 age group.
  • 18 lanes will be used for prelims and timed final events. One course of 9 lanes will be used for finals. ENTRY RESTRICTIONS:
  • Swimmers may enter no more than three (3) individual events per day. If an entry is submitted with an individual entered in more events than this rule allows, the entry will be made by order of events starting with event #101 until the rule is satisfied. There will be no refunds.
  • Positive check-in will be required for the 1000 free on Sunday. All other events will be pre-seeded. The meet referee will have the authority to add or combine heats.
  • The Meet Director reserves the right to return entries in order to control the duration of the meet. Entries will be accepted on a first come basis (SEE ENTRY DEADLINE). The Meet Director will also have the authority to add heats if time permits. The meet will be limited to 1100 swimmers. No team will be split.
  • ENTRY FEES:

High point awards for 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15 & Over events will be awarded. These awards will be made to the swimmer in each age-group with the most points regardless in what age group their points were earned.

TIMERS:
Because we conduct competition in two pools, it is necessary to ask that each team with 10 or more athletes provide two (2) timers per session, possibly including the final sessions (although we hope to not need volunteers for the finals). A list of assignments will be provided prior to the meet based upon team size. Timers will need to sign in at the timer check-in table in the concourse and report to the Head Timer 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each preliminary session in the wet classroom downstairs.

SCORING:

Individual events: 22-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.

WARM-UPS:Swimmers must enter the water feet first from the edge of the pool with one hand in contact with the deck. Teams will be assigned warm-up lanes prior to the meet. Check the website for assignments.

PARKING:

Event parking will be available in the parking garage located next to the Recreational Sports Center. There is limited street parking around the Rec Center. CLERK OF COURSE/SWIMMER CONDUCT/PARENT CONDUCT

There will be NO Clerk of Course.
All swimmers should report directly to the starting blocks for their events.
All swimmers are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. It is the responsibility of all parents to ensure all minor participants/spectators are well behaved and under supervision at all times. Any swimmer acting in an inappropriate manner will be reported to their coach. If the swimmer is reported a second time, they will be banned from participating for the remainder of the meet.
ALL parents are to remain in the gallery area and are not permitted on the pool deck unless they are serving in a volunteer capacity such as a timer or meet official.

CONCESSIONS/FACILITIES:

Natatorium concessions are available to everyone. Hospitality for coaches and workers will be available in the Wet Classroom, adjacent to the pool entrance.
ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING IS ALLOWED ON THE MIAMI UNIVERSITY CAMPUS.
SwimvilleUSA Swim Shop will be available at the meet.

VENUE RULES:
Deck Access: Deck access is restricted to competing athletes, registered coaches, officials and meet workers. No parent or

spectator will be allowed on deck except at the request of the meet officials or meet director.

Locker Rooms and Changing Facilities: The Women and Men’s locker rooms are located on the pool deck level. Locker space is not available. Belongings may be stored on deck in team areas. Miami University is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

First Aid/Training Needs: Lifeguards are trained to handle water emergencies and first aid on the deck. Please report all first aid issues to the Aquatic Staff.

Prohibited Items: The following items are not permitted in the facility: Glass, lawn chairs, coolers, and helium balloons. There is no food allowed on the pool deck.

Banners: One professionally made banner per team may be displayed. All banners will be hung by the facility staff.

Flash Photography: Flash photography is not permitted at the start of any race.

Deck changing is not permitted.

Team Seating: Team seating is available on a first-come basis by session. Belongings should be removed from the deck between sessions for area cleaning. Spectator gallery is also available on a first-come basis. Saving of seats is prohibited.

Wireless Internet Access: Wireless internet access will be available throughout the meet. Access through MU-Guest.

Toys For Tots: PLEASE NOTE!

This meet is named the “Holiday Spirit Classic” with the intent of reminding all participants to think about the spirit of giving during the holiday season. In promoting this spirit, each swimmer is asked to bring one unwrapped, new toy, which will be collected at the meet in marked barrels and given to a less fortunate child via the Toys for Tots program. The Makos team asks that all coaches communicate this request to all swimmers and parents in their program with the goal of collecting hundreds of toys at this meet which will later be wrapped and distributed to the under privileged children in the area. Thanks, in advance, for your help in this worthwhile cause. Over the past several years, swimmers have made this effort very successful.

    Admissions

    The WTRC Sharks may charge an admission fee for entrance into the aquatic facility.

    ▪ The athlete’s coach provide advance notice of any necessary accommodations

    ▪ List in the email with the Hy-Tek entry (or on paper) the swimmer’s name, entry times,

    strokes/distances, days/sessions, and how the swimmer prefers to be seeded.
    Preferred seeding will be with the same age group in either the same distance race or a longer distance race (i.e., 50 free during the 100 free). Exceptions to this should be listed in the “necessary accommodations” information that accompanies the meet entries. More information is available under Adapted Swimming on the Ohio Swimming website.

      Swimmers may enter four (4) individual events (including deck entries) per day. All events will be swum in a mixed gender format.

      General Organization / Schedule

      Deck Entries

      Deck entries will be permitted at the discretion of the Meet Director for a $10 per individual event and $16 per relay event fee. If a swimmer is not previously entered in the meet, then the swimmer must show proof of USA Swimming registration for the current season and pay the applicable $5 Ohio Swimming, Inc. surcharge in addition to any event fees. Payment must be received prior to the swimmer being entered in any event. Deck entries will be accepted until 45 minutes prior to the start of the meet. Coach approval for all deck entries is requested.

      Awards

      All events will receive ribbons for places 1-16.

      Concessions

      A full concession area with a wide variety of breakfast and lunch menu items will be available throughout the meet.

      Directions

      From I-75, take Exit St. Rt. 725 and proceed east. Travel approximately 2 miles. The Washington Township Rec Center (WTRC) is located on the north side of State Route 725.

      From I-675 South, take Exit 2 Miamisburg-Centerville Road (St. Rte. 725). Go east (left) at second stop light. This is Miamisburg-Centerville Road (St. Rte 725). Proceed east approximately one mile to the facility. WTRC is located on the north side of Miamisburg-Centerville Road.

      Parking

      In the event parking fills up in front of the Rec Center, please be aware that there is ample additional parking at Rec West (directly to the west of the Rec Center), on all sides of the building. This is a very short distance from the pool entrance. Please do not use the Subaru lot for parking, and park only in designated parking spaces. See aerial map below.
